Conversion parts porsche transmission 901/914
Starting situation / request for the mounting
The room allowances in the Bug are not luxuriant in principle. Room is limited particularly in the engine compartment. By this limitations in size are given for the usage of engine and transmission. It is important, for the installation mounting of another transmission, that the motor doesn't have to be moved farther to the back.
If you compare a Porsche-transmission type 901 with a bug transmission, at first glance you will notice that the lengths of the gearboxes aren’t the same. Furthermore the shiftrod of the Porsche transmission is at the underside of the casing, while the Bug transmissions has it at the top.
If you take the 914 transmissions for the starting point, you are faced with the problem of the greater length to the Bug transmission on one hand and the typical 914 nose cone with the mounting arms on both sides of the nose cone. This seems to be a seemingly insurmountable hurdle for an installation. Because of these technical facts we had the demand to manufacture new parts like nose cones and mounting barrs. Also there was the necessity to adjust the shift rod position in the tunnel. It was also important to think about vibration-poor, stable suspensions, matching output shafts, mounting plates, etc.
Our parts are based on years-long experiences at the space-saving installation of Porsche-transmissions into Volkswagen Beetle. We certainly didn't invent the wheel again; however we were concerned about, how interested people can install such a shift box without extended efforts.
